Be Prepared to Take The Exam
What to Bring

Plan to arrive early to the test site. Bring your government-issued ID and No. 2 pencils. Try to remember to pack a snack and a beverage. You will not be allowed to use your cell phone during the exam.

What To Expect

You are given two-and-a-half hours to complete the written exam, and you must achieve a score at least 70 percent to pass. You will be tested in areas such as arithmetic for daily living and how you would handle certain situations you may encounter as direct support staff.

Application

Send your completed and signed application to the OPWDD facility where you would like to take the examination. There is no application fee required to take this exam.

Overview of the Job
Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) provide a wide variety of person-centered supports and services to people with developmental disabilities. As a DSP you will assist and inspire the people you support to attend to their personal daily living needs and to develop the vocational, nutritional, social and personal skills necessary to achieve their highest possible level of independence in the least-restrictive environment as possible.
