Maintenance and Facility Operations Positions
Working at a campus-based setting or community residence you would perform maintenance and facilities duties and repair work in areas such as carpentry, plumbing, painting, masonry and electrical. You may perform grounds work and snow and ice removal, if necessary.
Facility positions may be responsible for the appearance and condition of grounds and physical plant utilities.
Maintenance Assistant
As a Maintenance Assistant with OPWDD, you would perform routine, repetitive semi-skilled maintenance, installation and repair tasks in one or in a combination of the mechanical, building, construction, motor equipment and electrical trades. You may also perform journey-level activities under supervision or after receiving detailed instructions, to learn and perfect your skills.
Minimum Qualifications: Two years of full-time experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson; OR completion of an appropriate technical school course at a school, institute or branch of the Armed Forces, such as the New York State CSEA-P Applied Skills Trades Certificate Program.

Trades Generalist
As a Trades Generalist with OPWDD, you would function as a skilled worker in a primary trade while also performing a variety of skilled and semiskilled activities in one or a combination of other related trades in response to maintenance program requirements.
Minimum Qualifications: Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson, which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute or branch of the Armed Services.

Facility Operations Assistant 1 (Grounds)
As a Facility Operations Assistant 1 (Grounds), you would be responsible for maintaining the appearance and condition of grounds, athletic fields, walkways and roads within the facility.
Minimum Qualifications: There are no education or experience qualifications for this class. You must be physically able to perform the tasks of the position and be able to understand and carry out written and oral instructions. When required to operate a motor vehicle, you must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle being operated.
Plant Utilities Assistant
As a Plant Utilities Assistant with OPWDD, you would assist in the operation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical and electrical equipment providing heat, hot water, ventilation, air conditioning and electrical distribution in a safe and efficient manner.
Plant Utilities Engineer
As a Plant Utilities Engineer 1, you would operate, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, test and calibrate mechanical and electrical equipment providing heat, hot water, ventilation, air conditioning and electrical distribution in a safe and efficient manner. You would make recommendations on major overhauls and replacement of equipment and identify, recommend and develop energy conservation projects. You may supervise subordinate staff in the operation and maintenance of heating facilities and mechanical equipment.
