REGION: 6 – Bernard Fineson
DSP: Chloey Morris
Position: Direct Support Assistant
Years of Service: 18
Chloey Morris was selected by the Bernard Fineson DDSOO as a Direct Support Professional of the Year because she exemplifies the core values of what it means to serve as a DSP.
“Chloey loves her job supporting the people in the home,” says Amanda Fraser, Developmental Assistant III. “She ensures they are neatly dressed and groomed when taking them out into the community. She works well with her peers. Because of the mutual respect, passion for her job and her professionalism, Chloey can lead the home when a supervisor is not on duty.
“Chloey advocates and goes above and beyond her call of duty for the people she supports to ensure the best services are being given to them – especially with medical appointments,” Fraser adds. “Because of her expertise, she also takes the lead to train new staff members.”
She works to engage the people she supports and helps them stay connected with the community, with religious services and making sure all holidays are celebrated.
“People also enjoy Chloey’s cooking and the opportunity to prepare foods they enjoy eating,” says Fraser. “She ensures that everyone has a variety of foods from different ethnic backgrounds. Whether it be West Indian food, Indian food, Italian food or Chinese food, Chloey loves to cook.”
“Chloey ensures the people she supports receive the best quality of care,” Fraser adds. “She is also a great team member/player who has a great relationship with her peers. She is professional and lives up to the OPWDD mantra of putting people first.”
