The Highgate Gang

The Highgate Gang

Sometimes being “one of a kind” takes a group effort. Inspired by Martin Luther King, Jr., the staff and residents at OPWDD’s Highgate home set out to work together to give back to their community.

They collected more than 250 books for children and young adults involved in the Project Flight Program, as part of the Employee Assistance Program’s 2018 Martin Luther King Jr. Food and Literacy Drive. But they weren’t finished there.

Next, they teamed up with three other groups within the agency to support Warming Hearts, an organization that donates winter hats, gloves and scarfs to children in need. The Highgate gang gathered more than 300 winter clothing accessories for students at Public School 94 West Hertel Academy – items that were surely put to good use in the very cold climate of Buffalo!

The Highgaters plan to continue their volunteer work, extending their positive impact on their community into 2019 and beyond.

And that is what makes the people at Highgate One of a Kind.
