Lisa Severino’s dedication as a self-advocate for people with developmental disabilities has made her stand out in her field. Lisa first became involved with the Self-Advocacy Association of New York State (SANYS) ten years ago. In January, she was promoted to grassroots field assistant, a position where she coordinates and supports grassroots presenters, SANYS board members in the New York City and Westchester regions and self-advocate volunteers.

Additionally, Lisa was appointed by the governor’s office to the Developmental Disabilities Planning Council (DDPC) where she has assisted with increasing focus on healthy relationships, sexuality and LGBTQ issues for people with developmental disabilities.

Lisa is committed to helping other advocates, as well, and is an active speaker and teacher on self-advocacy at Queensborough College and the College of Staten Island.

And that is what makes Lisa One of a Kind.
