eVero – Employing People with Disabilities

eVero Corporation

eVero Coproration is located in Melville, NY and has been helping home and community-based service providers of all sizes solve complex technology challenges for over 20 years. The company’s proprietary software platform optimizes workflows while increasing transparency and productivity and works to create a connected ecosystem across the entire care continuum.

Founded by brothers Christos and Constantine Morris, eVero is committed to ensuring that all people get access to quality support services — especially those living with developmental disabilities. The company has over 100 employees and employs 7 people with developmental disabilities in New York. They’ve been employing people with developmental disabilities for 11 years.

OPWDD asked eVero about their employment.

What has surprised you most about employing someone with a developmental disability?  No real surprises –the employees jumped right in on day one ready to learn and share their ideas and unique experiences.  We have found across the board that people with special abilities are very motivated, hardworking, and dedicated employees.  They take great pride in their work and in the organizations that employ them.

What advice would you give to another employer considering employing people with developmental disabilities?  Hiring people with disabilities not only supports them but will make your team better overall, enhancing not only the lives of the person but also those working alongside them. As the diversity of our office culture expanded, the staff morale and loyalty experienced a tremendous boost.  We encourage community-based companies (like eVero) to create opportunities for paid employment to individuals with different abilities.  The benefits to organizations are limitless. There are some government-sponsored programs (https://askearn.org/ ) that can assist with recruitment and hiring.

What difference has the employment of people with developmental disabilities made in your organization?  We take pride in being a model for inclusivity, and having people from the community working in a variety of roles at our company has brought a unique perspective to the services we offer, and the way we interact with our clients and each other.
