Department of Developmental Neurobiology

Jerzy Wegiel, VMD, PhD, Chairperson

The Department of Developmental Neurobiology, consisting of three major divisions—Developmental Neuropathology/Pediatric Neuropathology, Immunology, and Psychobiology—focuses on the following priority areas: autism spectrum disorder; Down syndrome (DS); the neuronal ceroid lipofuscinoses (NCLs, or Batten disease); neurodegeneration; and prenatal exposure to noxious factors, including alcohol, infection, and drugs. The major research targets are the etiology, mechanisms, diagnostic biomarkers, and treatment of autism, DS, and the NCLs.
