Staten Island DDSOO
11/18/19
Ana Espinoza

POSITION: Program Aide

YEARS OF SERVICE: 13

Ana Espinoza was chosen as the 2019 Staten Island DDSOO Employee of the Year due to her reliability, dependability and willingness to take on many projects at one time.

James Stanley, Acting Director of Residential Services and Ana’s supervisor, says she is the Program Aide for the Residential Services team, and is directly responsible for supporting him and the Team Treatment Leaders on Staten Island.

“In my years of expeirence in the residential services department, Ana’s knowledge of the residential system is unparalleled,” Stanley says. “She seems to be a walking encyclopedia of knowledge when it comes to staff as well as the various forms developed by the agency.”

“In the past year, we’ve expereinced a change in leadership and Ana provided support to the Deputy Director,”Stanley continues. “She was able to walk him through various areas of Residential Services and the data she maintains for the department was proven to be invaluable.”

During the past year, the Staten Island Residential Services department has also undergone a few initiatives and the reorganizing of staffing structure. Stanley says Ana has played an integral part in developing the forms for these projects.

“Throughout the projects, Ana has consistently met established project deadlines and milestones,” he adds.

“During the past summer vacation period, several of her members were off and due dates were approaching on some projects. Ana took her time to ensure each project due was completed in its entirety. Ana never once complained about the projects or the workload, instead she worked until completion,” Stanley says.

“Ana is a steady hand. She is the first point of contact with the Residential Services Department Office. This means she interacts with a variety of people – staff, families, people we support and other vested parties, and she does an excellent job representing the agency,” Stanley says. “Ana is reliable and dependable. It is truly comforting to have her as part of the team.”

Deputy Director Luther Summers Hamilton agrees with Stanley.

“I have known and worked with Ana for five years and have always found her dependable, efficient and unfailingly punctual,” Summers Hamilton says. “In fact, I have never worked with a person who gives as much attention to detail as she does. Also, Ana’s willingness to take on difficult projects like creating forms for me at the last minute and seeing them to successful completion has repeatedly impressed me over the years.

“Her skills do not end with her office work,” he adds. “Ana also projects a warm, cheerful attitude to our advocates. I have seen her resolve conflicts and handle other difficult situations with remarkable patience and admirable tact. She loves people, works hard, and always tries to lift the spirits of those around her. I believe these characteristics represent all that is good in our agency, and I am pleased to nominate her for the Employee of the Year.”
