Front Door Process Report

Type: pdf
Author: Commissioners Office
Year of Publishing: 2016

This report outlines OPWDD’s Front Door Process, which is the way that New York’s residents with developmental disabilities gain access to services tailored to their individual needs. The 2015-16 State Budget directed OPWDD to report on the extent to which the Front Door policy has improved community education, connected individual needs to available services, and enhanced opportunities for self-direction.

OPWDD understands that timely access to services and providing clear information and direction for individuals and families seeking services is a critical part of our mission to enrich the lives of those with developmental disabilities and assist families seeking assistance. To that end, OPWDD has made considerable efforts to involve its stakeholders and incorporate their feedback to help refine and improve the Front Door experience and shorten the response time for those seeking to gain OPWDD service for the first time.

This report outlines the progress OPWDD has made in making the current process easier to navigate for individuals and families. OPWDD is proud to report that stakeholder satisfaction with the Front Door process has improved significantly after implementing numerous employee and stakeholder recommendations.
