THE NOMINEE’S FAVORITE OR MOST REWARDING PART ABOUT BEING A DSP: Laurie says her favorite part of the job is being able to provide quality, hands-on care.  She says the level of care provided in the medical homes gives her a sense of pride and making sure the needs of individuals are met is very rewarding to her.

ABOUT LAURIE: Laurie is an LPN at Bullis Rd./Seneca St., a home with complex medical needs.  She makes sure that medical needs are met by attending doctor’s appointments, advocating for the individuals she supports with a variety of medical providers, and completing all of the necessary follow-up.  She also takes the time to help people engage in meaningful community inclusion activities.

Laurie is very well respected by her co-workers.  She shows initiative and recently assumed a leadership role during the absence of a supervisor. She is self-directed, self-motivated and is willing to take the lead in the worksite and guide staff.  Laurie’s positive attitude and willingness to jump in set her apart from her peers.  The individuals she works with will often seek her out for care and reassurance.
