AVA-DAWN’S FAVORITE OR MOST REWARDING PART ABOUT BEING A DSP:

Advocating for the people in her care.

ABOUT AVA-DAWN:

Ava-Dawn’s supervisor, Selena Nesbitt, Developmental Assistant 2, says Ava-Dawn is an outstanding employee who goes above and beyond her job duties. She says she is persistent in advocating for individuals and that she is well liked by individuals and coworkers the same.

“Ava is a very compassionate employee. She over-extends her help to assure that individuals get the proper care,” Nesbitt says.

As an example of this, Nesbitt says Ava-Dawn will remain on duty to make sure any notification and documentation is properly written out; she has adjusted her schedule to accommodate individuals to go on vacation to Lake George, which included a four-day and three-night stay.

“Ava would call you from home to make sure her supervisor follows-up on needed medication or any other needs of our individuals,” she adds.

Ava-Dawn also adjusted her schedule to assist with a trip to the New York City aquarium, which the individuals enjoyed and were able to see a Mermaid parade. “Ava takes time and patience and allows the person to be as independent, as possible. She works to offer choices to individuals. Ava has a great sense of humor, and she is a perfect role model for our individuals and coworkers.”

“Ava has a great personality,” Nesbitt continues, “She is willing to do all tasks without argument. Ava would make great supervisor, even though her team would miss her if she decided to leave. “

Nesbitt’s message to Ava-Dawn: “Keep up the good work; you are really a great asset to the team.”
