KIMBERLY’S FAVORITE OR MOST REWARDING PART ABOUT BEING A DSP:

Jon Wysong, Kim’s supervisor, says Kim is a fantastic role model for the day program staff she supervises.

ABOUT KIMBERLY:

Wysong says Kim was selected because of her outstanding work ethic.  “She is incredibly organized and is dedicated to the mission of the agency and the day program on a daily basis,” he says.

Kim ensures that a smooth day occurs for all individuals by maximizing staff and encouraging independence and community integration, Wysong adds.

“She is active in assisting in the program rooms and especially in organizing events in the community that our individuals not only benefit from, but also enjoy,” he says.

Kim's dedication to the job is really what sets her apart.  She is often at work long after her shift is over and could be on her way home.  Wysong said Kim is creative in her problem-solving and goes the extra mile to ensure that when there is an activity scheduled, it takes place as planned and everyone who had expressed interest gets to go.

“This may include trips to the circus, the many county fairs, picnics, shopping trips, lunch outings and a whole host of other opportunities that present themselves on a daily basis,” he says. “Kim will organize the transportation for these outings and will often volunteer to fill in in the rooms if staffing is short.”

Wysong says one of the most impressive things that Kim has done the past two years is to organize a concert by a local Elvis impersonator at the Western New York main campus in West Seneca.

“Not only was there a concert on that day, but she also planned a chicken barbecue at the same time,” he explains. “Individuals were able to order a chicken barbecue in advance to enjoy as they took in the concert. For the past two years, so many individuals have looked forward to this event. Not only is this an opportunity for so many of our individuals to see a favorite performer, but it is also a time for individuals and staff to see old friends, and to make new friends, as well. Kim's hard work is always seen in the smiles on so many faces on this special afternoon.”

Wysong concludes, “Kim is caring, dedicated and displays a work ethic second to none.  Anyone would be happy to work with Kim at their side.”
