THE NOMINEE’S FAVORITE OR MOST REWARDING PART ABOUT BEING A DSP:

Kevin says his favorite part about being a direct support professional is “being part of a team that works together to enhance the lives of the individuals I care for.”

ABOUT KEVIN:

Patti Bennett, Developmental Assistant 3, says that Kevin has been a model employee for years. “He rarely calls in and is willing to pick up extra shifts or change his schedule to help the home run smoothly.”

Kevin holds to a high standard of professionalism and is a role model to his coworkers. “Kevin has been a positive influence in the training of new staff,” adds Bennett. “He always makes himself available to answer questions or lead by example.”

Kevin has worked the evening shift in the home since 2011. He comes in each day and immediately begins to prepare for the people to arrive home. “Kevin ensures each person’s needs are met and goes above and beyond on a daily basis, not only to support the individuals, but to support and encourage staff,” Bennett continues. “Kevin volunteers to take other shifts, bring individuals to doctor’s appointments and even take them on vacation.”

Bennett says Kevin knows each person who lives at the home where he works, as well, if not better, than anyone who works there. “He knows their likes, dislikes, if they had a good day or if someone is having a bad day,” says Bennett. “Kevin truly cares about the individuals who live in the home.”
