THE NOMINEE’S FAVORITE OR MOST REWARDING PART ABOUT BEING A DSP:

Catherine “Cathy” Aragona says, “I like it when I can help make a person happy. When they are happy, it makes me happy. I enjoy being with them as they are like my second family.”

ABOUT CATHY:

Karen Simpson, Developmental Assistant III and Cathy’s supervisor says Cathy is a positive role model, a team player and a true professional. “Whether at her default site or helping out another site, she is compassionate towards people she supports and a mentor to staff. Cathy demonstrates the Code of Ethics daily. She doesn’t just talk the talk, she also walks the walk.”

Cathy treats each person as an individual, giving them individualized attention and respect, Simpson says. She assists them with obtaining their goals, whether it is trying to obtain a job or at a recreational activity. “Cathy is a preferred staff – no matter where she works – for recreational outings due to her ability to make an outing a quality one for everyone,” Simpson says.

“Cathy is a positive role model, not only to the staff she supervises, but to the people she cares for and supports. She is very compassionate and is an excellent advocate for the people she supports,” Simpson adds
