THE NOMINEE’S FAVORITE OR MOST REWARDING PART ABOUT BEING A DSP:

James says he enjoys the flexibility of the job by being able to balance his work time by assisting people with disabilities to learn and enhance their computer skills as well as the staff with their computer skills.

ABOUT JAMES:

James is wonderful with the people in his class, working one-on-one to teach them computer skills. Sandra Smith, program manager at the day hab program and James’ supervisor says, “The people he supports have a fun time learning the programs he has selected. Also, James has been an asset to this program when it comes to computers.

“He has assisted me with the new Electronic Health Records program and keeps laptops updated. James has assisted staff with obtaining email addresses and e-Pins,” she continues. “James has demonstrated to staff how to fill out certain records. He does this all with a smile.”

In fact, Smith says James’ assistance with getting the EHR program up and running has helped leave plenty of time for other staff to continue to focus fully on the people being served in the day hab program.

Smith says she is happy to have a person like him working for her.

“James is pleasant and cooperative at all times and is very good with people he supports. They enjoy spending time with him, and he enjoys spending time with them.”
