THE NOMINEE’S FAVORITE OR MOST REWARDING PART ABOUT BEING A DSP:

Melissa truly feels she is part of a select family with the people she works with, according to Ruth Mohamed, Developmental Assistant II at Staten Island. She treats everyone with caring and grace and always with a smile on her face. She has a cheerful disposition that spreads to the people we serve.

ABOUT MELISSA:

On a daily basis, Melissa arrives early to begin her day in making the lives of people she supports better. She often works long hours doing various tasks without complaint. She is a true joy to supervise.

She is patient and kind not only to people she serves but also with her coworkers. We often put her in the role of training new staff on the job because of her knowledge and patience.

Melissa just generally makes the people we serve lives better, supporting them to do as much on their own as possible – all with a happy demeanor. She is definitely in the right career!

Kari Proffitt, Melissa’s Team Treatment Leader says, “Melissa has always been a pleasure to work with. She has a pleasant attitude and takes a genuine interest in the health and well-being of people with developmental disabilities. Melissa goes out of her way to make sure everyone looks nice and is comfortable. She takes a personal interest in each and every person.”
