Change of Controlled Substance Status – Hydrocodone and Tramadol


As Part of the I-Stop Bill (7637), legislation signed into law on
August 27, 2012 by Governor Andrew Cuomo, to help fight prescription drug abuse on 2/23/2013,

Hydrocodone and all its formulations and combination products will now be reclassified from a Class III to a Class II Controlled Substance in NYS. On this date any remaining refills on an active prescription will not be honored. A new written prescription or an emergency telephone prescription (5 day maximum) will be required.

Tramadol, (Ultram, Ultracet) on this date will become a Schedule IV classified substance in NYS.
