Residential Schools

Residential Schools are an additional option for school-age student with severe disabilities. This residential program provides 24-hour care and treatment and offers services specific to the individuals needs.  The program may incorporate behavioral teaching methods and structured learning experiences to increase and enhance skill development in areas such as personal care, communication, social interaction, recreation/play, and community integration. Support strategies identified by speech language therapists, occupational therapists, recreation coordinators, and behavior specialists/analysts are an important program component.

Governed by the New York State Education Department, parents may apply for special education services through the New York State Commissioner of Education, or by the Committee on Special Education or Committee on Preschool Special Education of the school district responsible for the student.
