Report to the Legislature - Residential Request List

Type: pdf
Author: Commissioners Office
Year of Publishing: 2016

The attached report provides a review of OPWDD’s Residential Request List and corresponding recommendations to improve residential alternatives and address housing needs of individuals, consistent with transformational goals as required by Chapter 58 of the Laws of 2015.

This report is based on OPWDD’s efforts during the past year to contact every person who had indicated an interest in residential services at some point in the future through the Residential Request List, formerly known as the NY Cares list, to determine if they have immediate needs that must be met and help OPWDD plan for residential services.  More than 24,000 outbound calls were made and more than 12,000 letters were sent out as a part of this effort. Based upon this outreach, and other work with individuals, families, advocates, and providers, OPWDD will continue to develop strategies to address the need for safe, accessible, affordable and individualized housing supports for people with developmental disabilities.
